City of the Beaches

Agios Nikolaos

The eastern part of Crete hides some of the nicest surprises. The exotic beaches of the islands Chrissi and Lefki can be explored by taking a sea trip on excursion boats from Ierapetra and Makrigialos. The protected palm forest at Vai and Itanos strongly reminds of an African landscape, while the secluded beaches of Karoumes and Xerokambos are a must-see for nature lovers. The dry rocky landscape changes dramatically a few miles to the west, on the serene strands formed below the slopes of Thripti range. The capital of Lassithi, Agios Nikolaos, hosts the lovely beaches of Gargadoros, Istron and Ammoudara.

Mikronissi beach

At the southwest edge of Mikronissi islet with the lighthouse of Agii Pantes, opposite Agios Nikolaos city, just at the point where there is a small pier for the boats, we meet the beach of the island. The beach is located in an ancient carvied bay and there is access through a stone staircase.

Giorgakis beach

Giorgakis is one of the many beaches in Ferma area, formed below very steep cliffs, but it can be accessed by stairs. The short descent leads to one of the most beautiful beaches of East Crete, with fine pebbles and rocks that form caves.

Voulismata beach

Between the palm forest in Vai and the beaches of ancient Itanos the small beach in Voulismata is formed. Voulismata is the most remote beach in the area and you will almost never find anyone here, as the only way of access is to walk alongside the coast and there is no road reaching the beach.

Dragonada Beach

The island of Dragonada is the largest of the islands Dionysades in the open sea of Sitia. On the island there is a small harbor, next to the temple of Saint Anthony and the only house on the island. This tiny harbor hosts a tiny, but very beautiful, beach with sand and rocky bottom.

Kalikovrechtis beach

Kallikovrechtis beach is located 19km west of Ierapetra and 4km east of the picturesque town of Myrtos and can be reached via asphalt road from Myrtos or Tertsa. The beach belongs to the periphery of the village of Ghodia and is formed at the exit of the Kalikovretis stream, formed between the summits of Kolechtos and Kako Oros.

Heromilia beach

Heromilia beach is located in the area of Agia Triada (also known as Tso) in Sitia province, just 2km east of Atherinolakkos Power Station. It is the westernmost beach of the beaches of Livari.

Roussospasma beach

Roussospasma beach, Rousso Spasma or Rousso Skisma, is the easternmost beach of Xerokampos area. It can be accessed by walking 15' on the path that starts from Krinakia beach and heads east towards Kato Zakros

Karavostasi beach at Kalo Chorio

Karavostasi beach is the westernmost of the beaches of the village Kalo Chorio at province Mirabelo, approximately 12 kilometers southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 22 kilometers north of Ierapetra.
