Thousands of visitors arrive daily by boat from Ierapetra to Chrissi and spend most of their time swimming at Belegrina, also known as Golden Beach. Its brilliant blue water, white sand with pink shades created by thousands of broken shells, and the junipers that hold the sand together with their enormous roots form an unforgettable tropical landscape.

At the western end of the long beach of Chatzivolakas on the island of Chrissi, we find the beach Avlaki. Avlaki has rocky seabed, like almost the whole island. At the end of the beach there is the second harbour of the island at the site of Spilios and the only house in Chrissi built in the middle of the 20th century. The name Spilios (cave) is taken after an old house built in the rock.

Vougiou Mati lies on the southern coast of Chrissi Island and was once the main landing point for excursion boats arriving from Ierapetra. West of the quay is a small rocky bay with low sea caves that offer quiet and secluded spots. To the east lies a long beach with a rocky seabed, which visitors often prefer when the northern coast and the island’s main beach, Belegrina or Golden Beach, are affected by waves.

Approximately 500m west of the main harbor Chrissi island, approximately in the middle of the southern side of the island, a dirt road leads us to the beautiful Vlychadia beach. The beach has black and red chalk that comes from red lava, while the bottom is mainly rocky.

At the eastern end of the island of Chrissi lies the beautiful beach of Kataprosopo (=face to face), which faces the island of Mikronissi. Mikronissi is a great refuge for seabirds. In fact, the beach is divided into two by a thin strip of rocky land, while the vegetation in juniper is clearly more limited than the other beaches of the eastern part of the island. The sea between Chrissi and Mikronissi is no more than five metres deep, making it ideal for snorkelling.

At the easternmost end of Chrissi Island, on its southern coast, lies the long beach of Vages. The seabed is generally rocky, except at the eastern end of the beach, where there is a sandy section. Small boats and inflatable dinghies often anchor in this sheltered bay, as the sea is usually calm and the beach offers plenty of seclusion.

At the westernmost end of Chrissi Island lies the small Cape Kendra. Immediately to the south of the cape is the most secluded beach on the island. There is no tall vegetation to provide natural shade, while the seabed, as in most parts of Chrissi, is mainly rocky. A visit to the lighthouse and the church of Agios Nikolaos can easily be combined with a walk to Cape Kendra.

At the eastern end of the extensive juniper wood of Chrissi lies the small beach of Fragou Mnima. The area is home to a small saltpan known to the locals as Kaki Alyki, which turns into a small wetland during winter.
