At the eastern end of the extensive juniper wood of Chrissi Island lies the small Fragou Mnima Beach. The area is home to a small saltpan known to the locals as Kaki Alyki, meaning “Bad Saltpan”, which turns into a small wetland during winter. The island’s other saltpan is located at Spilios.
Besides the characteristic junipers of Chrissi, small clusters of pine trees have also developed in this area. Their expansion may affect the island’s fragile ecosystem and its native juniper populations. The seabed is rocky and the beach is almost always deserted.
