The quiet area of Peristeras is located at the eastern end of the long eastern beach of Ierapetra, where the road to Makrygialos ascends.

The beaches formed here are surrounded by high cliffs with caves and soft rocks, which protect bathers from prying eyes. The seabed in some places is quite rocky, while the sea is rarely rough.

Wild pigeons nest in the caves of the area, which gives it the name Peristeras (peristeri is pigeon in Greek. Access is either by walking from the Livadi area, or via stairs.
