The church was rebuilt in the 19th century, preserving some of its elements, such as the frescoes and the arcosolium (burial monument) of Georgios Hortatzis, a well-known chieftain of Amari, depicting a hunting scene. The drum of the church depicts the Pantocrator blessing the two founders of the church, Georgios Hortatzis and his wife.
