Vorno Gorge
(2 votes)

The Gorge of Ethia, officially known as Vorno, is located south of Heraklion, at the Asterousia Range. It starts from the village Ethia and, after tearing Asterousia northwards, it finishes at the plain of Messara, between the villages and Rotasi and Mesochori.

Ethiano Gorge (as it also called) is a very wild canyon that requires canyoning equipment in order to traverse it. The bed of the gorge is generally dry, like most canyons in Asterousia. The highest descent (rappel) is 65m high, thus making the Ethiano Gorge particularly appealing to canyoners.

If you are not fond of canyoning and want to meet the canyon, you can walk along the west walls of it, by trekking from west of the village Achendrias to Ethia or vice versa.
