Richtra, which is the pride of the inhabitants of Keratokambos, has a height of more than ten meters and has water during the rainy months of the year. When it has enough water it forms a double waterfall of unique beauty.
Next to the Church of St. Constantine and Helen by Tsikalaria there is a waterfall about 12m high, with a large quantity of water in winter. The picturesque landscape with a waterfall behind the chapel is very enchanting.
Very few villages in Crete are fortunate to have a waterfall in their space. One of these is Kato Kastelliana south of Heraklion on the foot of Asterousia Range. At the south entrance of Kato Kastelliana we meet Richtra, a beautiful waterfall that is the pride of the place. Richtra that the idiom of Asterousia means waterfall and it is an impressive 8-9m high waterfall with almost triangular shape.
The wider area of Ligaria beach hosts several waterfalls in after rains, framed by the unique greenish rocky grounds. One of the falls stands out due to the height of 10m and the small pond at its base. The fall is almost hidden by dense vegetation. To locate it, walk upside down the creek that flows to the east of the beach, overcome the small waterfalls from the side and you will meet the large waterfall in a stream coming from the left.
East of the village Korfes, River Gazanos that transfers water from Psiloritis Range to Ammoudara bay, meets the hard limestone of the area. At this position it forms a small beautiful waterfall that locals call Xepatomenos. Access to its base in winter is impossible without getting wet. A few meters after the fall, the light colored clay rocks create a unique landscape, called Kolimbithres.
A few meters after the beautiful Byzantine church of Saint George Hostos at Pirouniana, by village Agia Varvara we meet an unknown waterfall. The fall of Saint George is on the riverside path that leads to the deserted settlement Axenti today and shortly after a well-preserved watermill. The stream at that point creates a small waterfall 4 meters high.
West of the village Voritsi and very close to the monastery of Agios Georgios Kavou a compact rocky massif is formed. In the center of this impressive rock a very beautiful cascade of 25m is formed which locals call Richtra. The waterfall is fed by a nearby spring and has water after heavy rain.
Southeast of the village Partheni and near Epanosifis Monastery, emerges a wild stone massif. In the middle of the rock, several waterfalls are formed during the rainy season, which are completely unknown even to locals. The place can be reached through a dirt road that reaches the base of the lower waterfall.
