Only a few Cretans know that the highest waterfalls in Greece are all located in Crete. One of those, the most impressive and with more water than others is the waterfall of Mastoras at Mount Thripti. It is located just above the small village Monastiraki at Ierapetra province and is visible from the plain that stretches west and below the village.

Mastoras has the impressive height of 215 meters, one of the heighest free falls known in Greece, and a few years ago it was secured with canyoning bolts by canyoners. Mastoras gathers its waters from springs located just before the village Thripti and it initially forms a small stream and a short canyon with 4-5 rappels. After these small initial descents, the ground suddenly opens and the impressive waterfall is formed that falls into the incredibly wild gorge of Ha. The water falls from a height of 215 meters and after the middle of the fall the largest quantity forms to a cloud.

Water in Ha gorge is multiplied by Mastoras at that point, as this is the main feeder. For those who do not have the technical knowledge required to enter the gorge of Ha, this is no problem since it is visible from the exit of the gorge.
