Church of Christ the Savior in Plemeniana
(2 votes)

The cemeterial temple of Christ the Savior  (Sotiras Christos) is dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Savior and is located in the village of Plemeniana in province Selino. It is built on the site of an Early Christian temple, as can be seen from the many marble architectural members that are embedded into the walls or are scattered around.

The temple is large in size compared to the usual single-storey arched temples in the province of Selino, and ends in a large semicircular arch with an arched window. It was expanded westwards in the 19th century after the west wall was demolished.

The surfaces of the original temple are covered by a frescoes attributed to three different painters. The former painter continued in the late 13th or early 14th centuries the good tradition of the previous years, the second followed the folklore trends of his time and the third was strongly influenced by the West Europe.
