Katalyki Lake
(1 Vote)

The small lake of Katalyki (Kato Alyki) is located next to the beach of Kokkinos Pyrgos, about 2 km west of Tymbaki. The wetland formerly constituted a united wetland with the Geropotamos river, but the road construction, water decrease and land use for building Tymbaki airport have separated it from the main delta.

The lake itself has been split into different sections, from streets that penetrate it, with a major interference being that of the coastal road that has interrupted Katalyki's connection to the sea. Some migratory birds, such as flamingos, are frequently encountered in the lake, while the beach is an important reproduction site for the loggerhead sea turtle.
