Kroussonas Gorge

The gorge of Kroussonas is formed 3km west of the village Kroussonas in east Psiloritis range, between the peaks Voskero (1197m) and Gournos (1293m). The stream that flows through it collects the waters of the Livadi Plateau and transports them to the village Kitharida, where it joins the river Gazanos. The canyon is pretty wild and impressive, while in the winter it carries a small quantity of water and it forms small waterfalls.

The gorge is crossed by the ancient trail used by the Minoans to ascend to Zominthos and then to worship at the Idaean Cave above Nida plateau. There is also a road starting from the monastery of Agia Irini in Krousonas to the plateau Livadi, which runs parallel to the riverbed of the southern slopes of the gorge. From this road, we have a very nice view of the canyon and the wind turbines of Voskero peak.
