Ibrahim Baba Fountain 
The Fountain of Ibrahim Baba stands on Almyrou Street, just north of Theotokopoulos Park and close to the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce. It is a small but particularly interesting Ottoman fountain that has suffered extensive damage and is easily overlooked by passers-by.
The fountain was incorporated into the western exterior wall of the building complex that housed the Ibrahim Baba tekke. A tekke was a place of worship, residence and assembly for members of a Muslim mystical brotherhood. This particular lodge was associated with the Halveti Sufi order, which was active in Ottoman Candia.
Most of the complex has collapsed, and the principal surviving element is the section of wall into which the fountain was built. Beside the monument is an archaeological site containing architectural remains from earlier phases of construction in the area.
The fountain niche is framed by piers and engaged pilasters with Doric-style capitals supporting an arch. At the crown of the arch is a carved keystone decorated with a floral motif, while the triangular spandrels bear a relief pattern resembling woven matting.
The original water spout and several parts of the elaborate relief decoration no longer survive. Historical photographs show that the fountain once retained additional ornamental elements and inscriptions, which were removed or disappeared at an unknown date.
Despite its poor state of preservation, the Ibrahim Baba Fountain is an important remnant of Ottoman Heraklion. It also preserves the memory of a religious complex that has almost entirely disappeared from the modern urban landscape.
