In the middle of the valley between the villages Panassos and Gergeri we meet the chapel of St. John Gergianos. It is called Gergianos it is built in a rural region of Panasos today belonging to Gergeri. Saint John Gergianos is dedicated to birth of John the Baptist and today it celebrates on the feast day of Klidonas. The church is built in a very scenic area, surrounded by many ancient olive trees that adorn the circumference of Panassos.
The church of St. John was built during the Venetian period in Crete and it probably was full of frescoes. The frescoes were unfortunately whitewashed. A few years ago the Archaeological Service uncovered some parts of the original hagiographic decoration. The walls however even today remain whitewashed. In the iconostasis we see the icon of the Nativity of John the Baptist and an icon of the Birth of Virgin Mary.
