Opposite the small island of Kolokytha in the Elounda area is the famous beach of Kolokytha, which, despite its very small size, attracts a very large crowd of people. Those who want to come to Kolokytha but want to be isolated can walk south, where there are two small bays of Vagi.
Vagi does not reach the beauty of Kolokytha in any case, while in some years it also collects a lot of seaweed. It has sand and a relatively rocky bottom, while there are enough tamarisks for shade. It is the most suitable choice for nudists and those who want to avoid crowds, even in the summer months.
Very close to the beach there are traces of a small limestone quarry, from which building material was extracted since antiquity. Also here the visitor can still see the old terraces and the stone-built cottages, witnesses of the old era, when the inhabitants cultivated this barren land.
