St George Galatas (Milky) at village Asi Gonia is a small single-aisled church. This temple houses one of the famous centuries-old traditions of Crete during the feast of St. on April 23.
The shepherds of the region bring their goats and sheep in the courtyard of the church and they get blessed by priests! Thousands of sheep and goats invade the church yard within sound of their bells. The sheep are milked and milk is shared to the crowd for free.
The same feast takes place at the village Karoti, Rethymnon Province.
