Church of Saint George at Koustogerako
(1 Vote)

The small one-storey church of Saint George (Agios Georgios) in Koustogerako, province Selino, is located in the cemetery of the village. The church rescues 15th-century frescoes by painter Georgios Provatopoulos, according to an inscription of 1488.

This specific inscription has been the subject of a study on the possible origin of the famous Greek painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco), as Martha Theotokopoulos is mentioned as a founder of the temple. However, it is most likely that Domenikos Theotokopoulos was born and raised in Candia, current Heraklion.
