Mavromouri beach, also known as Psilos Ammos (“Fine Sand”), lies in the Ellinon Spitakia area, just east of Karoumes beach, at the remote eastern edge of the Lassithi region. It is a small, enchanting cove with golden fine sand and exotic turquoise waters that resemble a tropical setting.
Access is only possible on foot, through the Chochlakies Gorge, following the path to Karoumes and then continuing about 700 meters further east. Just before reaching the beach, visitors are greeted by smooth rock formations with elongated, sculptural shapes that add to the uniqueness of the landscape.
Above the sandy shore, the whitish limestone hosts impressive fossilized corals, emerging as dark, almost black stones, creating a rare contrast against the bright sand and the vivid colors of the sea. This remarkable scenery is part of the Sitia Geopark and offers a truly unique blend of natural beauty and geological interest.
