The northern side of the Spinalonga peninsula is known as Armos and is located within the territory of the community of Elounda, directly opposite the island of Spinalonga. It is a special place with old fields with dry stone walls that remains unknown, because there are no roads that lead here. The beaches of this area can be reached relatively easily, mainly by canoe or pedal boat from Plaka.
A little further east from the beach of Skourgeto, at the exit of a narrow stream, is the small rocky beach of Pelekiti. The entire area of northern Spinalonga, where there is quarryable limestone, was used to extract blocks to build the fortress of Spinalonga.
The entire slope up to the sea, from Pelekiti (which takes its name from the quarry) to Skourgeto, was a quarry from which large sections of limestone were removed. The result is that large steps and impressive shapes have been formed on the rocks, while in some places the cut rocks enter the sea.
