Theseus Beach is located near Cape Bourouni or Akros in the area of village Achlada, 24 km west of the city of Heraklion and takes its name from the homonymous private settlement of Theseus Village. Right next to it is the sheltered bay of Panagia at Fraskia, where there was a monastery of Panagia with a spring that operated until the Venetian period and served as a haven for ships.
The sea in the area is very deep, but is protected from the northwest winds by Cape Akros or Bourouni. The seabed is shallow at first, but after a few meters a steep descent begins. The beach is actually artificial as two small piers have been built to hold the sand and pebbles, so as to serve the residents of the settlement and their boats.
There are few umbrellas for residents. If you do not live in Theseus Village, you are not allowed to enter the settlement. You may be asked to leave your car next to the exit of the settlement and walk the steep 1 km downhill to the beach. The return walk will be very tiring. If you cannot convince the guards to let you go down with your car, the best way is to come by boat from the port of Pantanassa.
