Ierapetra

Church of Saint Mammes in Kapistri (Stavros)
(1 Vote)

The small single-nave church of Saint Mammes (Agios Mamas) is located north of the village Kapistri, currently named Stavros, in Ierapetra province, very close to the monastery of Panagia in Gourni and the church of Agia Sophia.

The temple preserves fragments of high quality frescoes dating back from the early 14th century. Interesting are the depictions of the two landowners, facing each other at the northern and southern walls of the initial temple, Saint Mammes on the south wall next to the sanctuary, and Saint George killing the dragon and a monk on the north wall.
