Ierapetra

Church of Panagia Keragrammeni
(1 Vote)

The church of Panagia (Our Lady) Keragrameni is located north of the village Stavros or Kapistri in the province of Ierapetra. The one-storey church is dedicated to the Birth of the Theotokos and is built near a spring that gives life to vineyards and orchards.

The temple bears frescoes dating from the beginning of the 15th century. The iconographic program includes scenes from the Christological cycle as well as a compact cycle of Theotokos. Illustrative of the high quality of the frescoes are the depictions of the enthroned Christ with the adjective Photodotis (light giving) on the south wall, as well as the Virgin Mary on the north wall, accompanied by two angels..
