The plateau of Evdomos is located 3km southeast of the village Gonies, at an altitude of 780m. The plateau is actually divided into two smaller plateaus, the Kato Lakos and Ano Lakos plateaus. The lake and the river Almyros in the area of ​​Georgioupolis form one of the most important wetlands of western Crete. The bank has been formed in order to assist in the operation of a small 300kW hydroelectric power station.

This plane tree forms a small oasis in the monastery of Saint John Giona, contrary to the arid and eerie landscape around. It is said that a weird phenomenon takes place here, as the leafs of the plane tree are from the other side than usual.
