Bo beach is located near Cape Kefali, at the northwesternmost tip of Gavdos island, approximately 7 km west of the port of Karave. The bay of Bo is formed at the mouth of a stream that originates in the area of Vrontides.
Bo is not a beach in the conventional sense, but rather a large, wave-washed rocky platform from which one can enter the sea. It is said that the beach owes its unusual name to the sound made by the waves as they crash against the rocks, producing a “bo-bo” noise.
The coastline of the area resembles a lunar landscape, with whitish rocks of soft limestone, where natural pools and small caves are formed. The scattered rocks along the shore are particularly striking, as they are remnants of harder rock that remained after the erosion of the coastline.
Swimming at Bo is generally challenging, as the area is exposed to northwesterly winds and the sea is often rough. However, on calm days with no wind, swimming in its deep blue waters can be especially rewarding.
Access is possible via a hike of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Ambelos, following the trail that leads toward Potamos Beach. After reaching the midpoint of the trail, the left-hand junction leads to Bo. The path is quite steep in certain sections and offers little to no shade.
