The small beach of Varkotopi is formed in a wild landscape approximately 3 km east of Mochlos, Sitia, within the perimeter of the community of Tourloti and close to the road leading to the Tower of Kornaros and the village Myrsini. To the east of the beach, the Kinopotamos River flows out, which carries water from Mount Orno.
Access to the beach is via a steep asphalt road. Behind the beach, a brick-red earthen wall rises abruptly. Varkotopi is one of the longest beaches in the area and the most beautiful. To the east, the impressive cliffs of Kalavros can be seen.
The beach has sand and pebbles and often has waves, which makes swimming difficult. To the west, special formations are created in the rocks with small ponds, while there are also small caves in the red soil cliffs that offer shade.
