10 secret beaches revealed 
These ten beaches stand out not simply because they are beautiful, but because each has a very particular character: an offshore islet, volcanic-looking cliffs, fossil-rich white rocks, hidden gorges or bays reached mainly on foot or by boat.

1. Saint George at Dia islet
Agios Georgios is the main sheltered bay of Dia, the uninhabited islet north of Heraklion. Its small sandy beaches have turquoise, usually calm water, while the bay was also used as a harbour in antiquity and later explored by Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
2. Aspes beach
Aspes is one of the most remote beaches of the Asterousia Mountains, hidden below almost vertical dark cliffs east of Treis Ekklisies. Its dark shore, vivid turquoise water and unusual caves carved into the rock create one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes of southern Crete; access is only by boat.
3. Kedromouri beach
Kedromouri is a secluded coast between Vai and Maridati, reached only on foot through the wild landscape of far eastern Crete. Its isolation, rocky surroundings and clear water make it an excellent choice for visitors who want to leave the organized beaches behind.
4. Asprougas beach at Koufonissi
Asprougas lies on the southern coast of Koufonissi, surrounded by soft whitish clay rocks that gave the ancient island its name Lefki. The area resembles an open-air geological museum, with fossils, pale reddish sand and shallow turquoise water in an exceptionally untouched setting.
5. Galini beach
Galini is a small hidden cove between Achlia and Agia Fotia, protected from the road by high conglomerate cliffs. Fine pebbles, calm clear water and a partly rocky seabed make it a quiet place for swimming and snorkeling, reached by a short path from the settlement.
6. Kaminaki beach
Kaminaki lies at the exit of the wild Perivoliano Gorge in the southeastern Asterousia. The beach is pebbly, extremely isolated and surrounded by bare mountains and steep cliffs; because land access is very difficult, it is reached mainly by boat from the wider Treis Ekklisies area.
7. Agadiko beaches
Megalo and Mikro Agadiko are two tiny beaches between Agios Ioannis and Koudoumas Monastery, close to the cave of Saint Anthony. The surrounding Asterousia landscape is filled with traditional salt pans and pine-covered slopes, while the beaches remain almost completely secluded.
8. Vathy beach
Vathy is a remarkably well-protected bay near Cape Lithino, formed at the exit of a small gorge and almost hidden from the open sea. Its circular shape keeps the water calm even when nearby coasts are rough, a feature that according to local tradition once made it a natural pirate anchorage.
9. Fotinari beach
Fotinari consists of two quiet pebbly coves between Plakias and Souda, set in a small bay with dense vegetation. The rocky seabed is excellent for snorkeling and fishing, while short stone paths through small wooded patches lead from the road down to the water.
10. Kritama beach
Kritama is a series of secluded sandy beaches on the southern coast of Sfakia, east of Orthi Ammos and Frangokastelo. The steep cliffs behind the shore show striking layers of different colors and even contain natural clay, while freshwater springs flow from the rocks throughout the year. The seabed is sandy, the water is shallow and usually warm, and access is difficult — mainly by boat, or by carefully approaching from the eastern end of Orthi Ammos — which helps Kritama preserve its genuinely hidden character.
