Argouliano Gorge is located in southern Rethymno, between the Manikas Plateau and the traditional village of Argoules. It is one of Crete's most remote and least-known gorges, distinguished by its wild natural beauty and its significant ecological value. The area is an important natural habitat, supporting a rich variety of flora and fauna.

Access to the entrance begins from the Kalikratis Plateau, following the road to the village of Kalikratis and then a dirt road leading to the area known as Spiliou Lakkos, where the stone shepherd's hut (mitato) of the same name stands at an altitude of approximately 1,100 metres. From the cliffs above the gorge, an easy hiking trail of about two hours begins, but the true beauty of the area is revealed only to those who descend into the gorge itself.

The complete descent of Argouliano Gorge takes approximately 4–5 hours and is recommended for experienced hikers. The route is particularly demanding, as most of the hike follows large boulders and rough rocky terrain, with very few easy sections. However, the elevation changes are relatively moderate and the narrow passages are limited, making the challenging streambed and uneven terrain the main difficulties of the hike.

The scenery constantly alternates between imposing limestone cliffs, typical Mediterranean vegetation, holm oaks, Cretan maples and scattered large trees that provide welcome shade along the route. The steep rock faces are home to birds of prey and griffon vultures, while the surrounding area supports a rich wildlife, including several reptile species and many other animals typical of the White Mountains.

The gorge ends at the village of Argoules, at an elevation of about 120 metres. This small traditional village offers beautiful views of the sea and is an ideal place to relax after the hike. From there, a short dirt road leads to the quiet beach of Agia Marina. Shortly before reaching the beach, the stream of Argouliano Gorge joins the stream flowing from Perdikaris Gorge.
