The most famous and most photographed beaches on the island of Crete, known for their exotic water and majestic natural environment, are the heavenly lagoons of Balos at Gramvousa peninsula and Elafonissi, which lie in the southwestern edge of the island. Between them, lies the virgin beaches of ancient Falassarna. The beach starts from the church “Madonna of the Harbor”, near the port of Kissamos, and extends along a 2km shore with coves, up to Kaliviani. Vigglia has coarse sand and crystal clear waters. In some parts, the sand is interrupted by a few pebbles and rocks.
The beach Lavrakas is located about 2km west of Agiannis, near the northern edge of Gavdos. Lavrakas can be accessed by walking 20'-30' Agiannis, where you can go by bus. Lavrakas is a fantastic beach with golden sand and turquoise water. It is no organized and is one of the most secluded beaches, since it is accessed only on foot.
Korfalonas is a nice sandy beach with shallow waters located in the central part of the vast beach that runs from Kissamos to Cape Rodopos. There are a few amenities near the beach, with umbrellas, showers, taverns and hotels included.
Kera beach is located around 20km east of Chania city, on the south shores of Souda Bay and close to the picturesque village of Plaka. The beach with the soft sand and some pebbles in places is situated in a wonderful landscape, with towering cliffs around.
Korfos (i.e. Bosom) is located approximately 2km south of Karave, the only port in Gavdos. There is a footpath along the coast from Karave that leads to the dorp of Korfos (60'). Moreover, there is a bus running to Korfos from Karave.
The beach of Damialis is located 1.5km north of Kissamos town and 37km west of Chania. It is situated just off the main road linking Kissamos with Platanos, thus access is very easy.
Fournoti is an amazing beautiful beach, located 57km south of Chania, 10km east of Sougia and 1.5km west of Agia Roumeli. It is very nice, with deep blue water, fine pebbles and surrounded by pine trees. The beach is secluded in one of the most beautiful Greek places, the rough Mountains of Sfakia.
The two beaches of Perivolakia (Small Perivolaki and Large Perivolaki) and the beach of Timios Stavros are three adjacent coves, located 2.5km west of Chora Sfakion and 74km south of Chania. The beaches are located in a very mountainous area, in the middle of the distance between Glyka Nera beach and Loutro, just next to the European footpath E4.
