Lakki is located 81km southeast of Chania and 48km southwest of Rethymno city. It’s located close to Fragokastelo, just 2km eastern, near the village Skaloti. A small stream that runs in the Gorge of Sfaggofarago empties to the west of Lakki. The beach is accessed by driving in the road that starts from Skaloti.
In Lakki, Laki or Lakkes, as they are named, you will meet several beautiful sandy coves, separated by very small rocky peninsulas. Olive groves reach the sea shore, indicating that the sea is almost always calm, since it does not destroy the olive trees. The area is very quiet and slightly organized. There are few units with rooms and some taverns. If you have a car, you won’t face any problem here, since the busier Fragokastelo is located within walking distance.
Lakki is suitable for quiet holidays and ideal for children. The sea is crystal clear and has very few visitors. In some coves there are umbrellas, but finding shade with so many olive and tamarisk trees around will not be a problem.
The easternmost cove of the main coves of the area (pinned on Map) is called Kioni, named after the birds that used to nest there during the Halcyon Days, i..e. the seven days in winter when storms never occur. If you have time, you can walk till Skaloti village and admire the beautiful Byzantine church of Prophet Elijah, which was built in 1335.
