Pirgos beach - 3.5 out of 5 based on 187 votes

Pirgos (i.e. Tower) is located on the northwestern coast of Gavdos, 6km northwest of the port of Karave. Pirgos has two adjacent emerald sandy beaches, which are absolutely unorganized and isolated. Many campers prefer Pirgos for camping, as it is very far from any tourist infrastructure. The beaches are hidden in the heart of a large bay, surrounded by dunes and junipers and protected by steep cliffs.

You can reach Pirgos only on foot or by boat. Walking from Ambelos village takes 2-2.5 hours, while the descending to the beach by the steep path is quite dangerous. You can also drive in a bad dirt road that leads to a place near the beach and walk from there. In any case, one thing is certain: the first contact with the crystal sea of Pirgos and the wild scenery around, will remain in your mind forever. Do not forget to carry water and food with you.
