The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Great Holy Virgin (Megali Panagia) in Rethymnon is dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin Mary (feast 21st November), Three Hierarchs and the Holy Apostles.
The mosque of Turhan Hatice still dominates with its imposing minaret next to the Great Gate (Guora Porta) of Rethymnon old town, though it is enclosed by several modern buildings. Turhan Hadice belonged to the sultan Ibrahim's harem (1640-1648) and became a Valide sultan in 1648 when her son, Mehmet D, became sultan.
Το σπηλαιοβάραθρο Τάφκος Γιοματά βρίσκεται στην περιφέρεια του χωριού Αγιά Μυλοποτάμου, στα Ταλαία Όρη και στην τοποθεσία Γιοματάς. Αποτελεί ένα από τα ομορφότερα σπήλαια του νομού Ρεθύμνης και εξερευνήθηκε πρώτη φορά από τον Σπηλαιολογικό Όμιλο Κρήτης (ΣΠΟΚ) το 2003. Ο διάκοσμος αποτελείται από επιβλητικές κουρτίνες, σταλαγμίτες, σταλακτίτες και κολόνες.
Για τα συνήθη δεδομένα της ανατολικής Κρήτης ο ναός του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Καβούσι Ιεράπετρας είναι ένας μεγάλων διαστάσεων καμαροσπεπής ναός με δύο πτερύγια στο δυτικό τμήμα που δημιουργεί ένα νάρθηκα σε διάταξη Τ. Το μεγάλο μέρος του ναού προέξυψε μάλλον από επέκταση προς ανατολάς σε δεύτερη οικοδομική φάση.
Each Year, on the day of Net Monday, a feast called apokrigiomata takes place at the scenic village of Gergeri. The name is taken after the Cretan verb apokrigiono, which means cut the meat consumption, due to the starting of the Lent. This day revives customs from all over the Greek territory with many participants parading in a carnival style.
The church of Saint John the Baptist is located next to the Sinai monastery of Panagia Spiliotissa and bears frescoes by the painter Phocas, whom we meet in other churches of Pediada province. An inscription mentions the date 1291, being one of the oldest in the region.

On the road that connects village Vori with the palace of Phaestus and next to the banks of river Geropotamos, we meet the ruined watermill of the area that locals call Gerontomylos (old mill). It is said that the area around the mill was a favorite place for the Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis.
