Vathianos River empties in the area, but it gets dry on the summer. The area has several adjacent coves with gold sand and shallow waters. Because the beach front is facing north, waves are quite common. That's why in some places you will see several small piers, breaking the waves.
Το χωριό Καλάμι βρίσκεται 15 χλμ ανατολικά των Χανίων, στις νότιες ακτές του κόλπου της Σούδας και κοντά στα Μεγάλα Χωράφια. Έχει απεριόριστη θέα προς το κόλπο και το φρούριο της Σούδας, ενώ βρίσκεται πολύ κοντά στην αρχαία Απτέρα και στα Οθωμανικά φρούρια Ιντζεδίν και Παλαίκαστρο.
The shelter Kallergis is located at an altitude of 1680m, 5km (1:30 hour walk along a dirt road) east of the Plateau Omalos and is the most popular shelter of Crete. It is built on a amazing site with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and the seas of both North and South Crete. The place is very important because from here one can continue climbing to the peaks Psari, Mavri and Melidaou or to cross the White Mountains by walking to the other shelter at Svourichti.
The grave of the important Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) is located at the highest point of the Walls of Heraklion, the Martinengo Bastion, with panoramic views to the ugly, but also historical, concrete jungle of Heraklion.
Ο Κούτελος είναι μια ήρεμη, ανοργάνωτη, απάνεμη παραλία με μεγάλα στρογγυλά βότσαλα, δίπλα στο χωριό Νομικιανά. Βρίσκεται περίπου 9km ανατολικά της Χώρας Σφακίων, 4km δυτικά του Φραγκοκάστελου και 76km νότια των Χανίων. Στη παραλία υπάρχουν λίγα δέντρα που προσφέρουν σκιά.
The gorge of Trypiti is formed at the range Asterousia, to the south of the village Vassiliki. The length of the canyon reaches 4 km and a beautiful pebble beach is formed at its exit. The beach is reached though a dirt road that runs high along the eastern side of the canyon for several kilometers before reaching its riverbed, just before the exit to the sea.
Η τεχνητή λίμνη Μπραμιανών κατασκευάστηκε το 1986 για να καλύψει τις ανάγκες καλλιέργειας 30.000 στρεμμάτων της Ιεράπετρας. Βρίσκεται 5 χλμ βορειοδυτικά από την πόλη, στο δρόμο που ενώνει την Ιεράπετρα με την Καλαμαύκα., κοντά στα Μπραμιανά.
Η Λασαία ήταν ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα λιμάνια της Γόρτυνας, της μεγαλύτερης πόλης της Ρωμαϊκής Κρήτης. Μάλιστα, η πόλη αναφέρεται στις πράξεις του Αγίου Παύλου, ο οποίος επισκέφτηκε την περιοχή κατά το ταξίδι του στη Ρώμη. Η Λασαία ήταν πλούσια σε κοιτάσματα χαλκού, τα οποία και αποτέλεσαν αντικείμενο εμπορίου.
