Η αρχαία Ελεύθερνα βρίσκεται 25km νοτιοανατολικά του Ρεθύμνου, κοντά στη Μονή Αρκαδίου. Η πόλη αποτελεί το σημαντικότερο αρχαιολογικό χώρο του νομού Ρεθύμνου, ο οποίος μάλιστα δεν έχει ανασκαφεί πλήρως και αναμένεται να δώσει στους αρχαιολόγους ακόμη πολλά πολύτιμα ευρήματα. Οι πρώτες οργανωμένες ανασκαφές ξεκίνησαν το 1985 από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης.

The archaeological site of Fourni is located on the homonym wooded hill, 17km south of Heraklion and west of Kato Archanes. To get there (the site is not open, but you could contact the guard), you could walk along the Minoan path starting from Kato Arhanes or drive to the beautiful artificial grove of Fourni.

The white sand lily (scient. Pancratium maritimum), also known as sea daffodil, amaryllis, lily of Knossos, saffron or crocus is a charming plant that overwhelms the dunes of Crete from August to October. Unfortunately, in recent years its population has been limited to a few beaches, due to the shrinking of its habitats. Thus, the lily is today considered as endangered species and is protected by Greek and international legislation.

The griffon vulture (scient. Gyps fulvus) or vulture is a large, heavy raptor with a wingspan of 260cm and a body length of 97-104cm. In Crete, it is found in large numbers in almost all areas of the island.

Το ιστορικό Μάλεμε βρίσκεται 18 χλμ δυτικά των Χανίων και αποτελεί μέρος της συνεχόμενης παραλίας από το Κολυμπάρι ως τα Χανιά, η οποία είναι γεμάτη με πανέμορφες αμμουδερές και βοτσαλωτές παραλίες.Έχει άμμο και η περιοχή του Μάλεμε, όπως και όλη η ευρύτερη περιοχή του κόλπου των Χανίων, είναι πολύ ανεπτυγμένη τουριστικά.

The cave of the Cyclops Polyphemus is located between Sougia and Koustogerako settlements. The cave has no interesting decor, but one marble formation that reminds of a throne. The entrance is divided in two by a large rock, like the rock that was put by Odysseus in the cave of Polyphemus, the one-eyed cannibal Cyclops, before blinding him with a large wooden stick.

The golden eagle (scient. Aquila chrysaetos) is the most dominant bird of prey in Europe, having a wingspan of 185-220cm and a body length of 75-90cm. Unfortunately, the species in Greece is endangered, with only a few pairs left, mostly in Crete.

Το σπήλαιο της Ειλειθυίας βρίσκεται 7χλμ. ανατολικά από το Ηράκλειο και 1χλμ. νοτιοανατολικά της Αμνισού. Αναπτύσσεται στις ανατολικές παρειές της κοιλάδας του ποταμού Καρτερού. Ο επισκέπτης θα το συναντήσει στα αριστερά του παλιού δρόμου που οδηγούσε στην Επισκοπή, με μια γέρικη συκιά να σηματοδοτεί την είσοδο του.
