Στην ανατολική μεριά του φαραγγιού του Ρούβα, ψηλά πάνω από το μοναστήρι του Αγίου Νικολάου, συναντάμε την τοποθεσία Καλύβες, όπου ασκήτευσαν τον 17ο αιώνα (περίπου το 1670) οι Όσιοι Ευθύμιος και ο Νικόλαος ο Κουρταλιώτης, που για κάποιους είναι το ίδιο πρόσωπο. Στο εσωτερικό του σπηλαιώδη ναού υπάρχουν μερικές τοιχογραφίες.
Το μουσείο «Ελαιουργείον» δημιουργήθηκε στο Δρομόνερο για να σωθεί από την ερήμωση το παλιό ελαιουργείο Ζυμπραγού. Το κτίριο αποτελείται από τον κεντρικό οικοδομικό πυρήνα που κατασκευάστηκε με λιθοδομή τη δεκαετία του 1920 και από μεταγενέστερες πτέρυγες.
The monastery of Panagia Antifonitria is located in the village Miriokefala, 29km south of Rethymno. The monastery does not operate today and is one of the oldest monasteries in Crete. It is said to have been founded in the 11th century by St. John Xenos or Hermit. Saint John is well known for establishing several small monasteries across the island.

The lake and the river Almyros in the area of Georgioupolis form one of the most important wetlands of western Crete. In the lake, we find many aquatic birds and aquatic plants like reeds, myrtles, and oleanders. The lake is natural and is watered by the water of the White Mountains. The bank has been formed in order to assist in the operation of a small 300kW hydroelectric power station.

The monastery of Koudoumas is located 74km south of Heraklion, on the western side of Cape Martelos and south of Kofinas Peak (the highest peak of Asterousia Mountains). The whole area is full of cavities where hermits used to live. To reach the monastery, you have to drive in a passable dirt road of 20km, starting from the village Sternes, which descends from an altitude of 1000m to the sea level.
