The church of St. John is located at a wooded location amid oaks near the village Roukani and is one of the most historical Byzantine monuments of Crete. The church dates back from the 11th-12th century and possibly operated as a monastery dedicated to St. John the Theologian. Today the church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

The Fountain of the Janissary Agha stands at the upper end of Ikarou Avenue, next to the Epigraphic Collection and opposite the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. The elaborate Ottoman fountain was originally incorporated into the mansion of the Janissary commander and was transferred to its present location after the building was demolished.

Ο Κυνηγόταφκος ή Τάφκος της Συκιάς βρίσκεται στις Γωνιές, στη θέση Βοσκερό σε υψόμετρο 1092 μέτρων, 40 χλμ περίπου δυτικά του Ηρακλείου. Συγκαταλέγεται στα βάραθρα και το εξερευνημένο του βάθος είναι 70 μέτρα.

On a small hill north of Voulismeni in Mirabello stands the old Monastery of Saint Onuphrius. The surviving remains of the monastic complex include its single-nave barrel-vaulted church, noteworthy frescoes and the ruins of the former monks’ cells.

Η Παναγία Βιγλιώτισσα είναι πρώην μοναστήρι κοντά στη Βουλισμένη, στη θέση Βιγλί. Το καθολικό της μονής ήταν αφιερωμένο στο Γενέσιο της Θεοτόκου (8 Σεπτεμβρίου). Ο ναός έχει αναστηλωθεί πλήρως και ο περιβάλλον χώρος έχει διαμορφωθεί σε ένα όμορφο παρκάκι και έχει τοποθετηθεί μνημείο για τη Μητέρα.

The folklore museum of Metohi - Sgoudiana is located near Korfos beach at Gavdos Island and was founded by the priest Emmanouel Bikogiannakis, who collected all Gavdian day life tools, agricultural and shipbuilding equipment, traditional costumes, household items, etc.

The Late Minoan settlement of Vrondas is located in an elevated position, 2km south of Kavoussi. It was inhabited during the setting of the Minoan Civilization by Minoans who moved to the peaks of the Cretan mountains so as to protect themselves from the Dorians who occupied the island.

Κοντά στο όμορφο χωριό του Αγίου Θωμά στο Ηράκλειο βρίσκονται τα ερείπια ενός εκ των μεγαλύτερων οχυρωματικών έργων της Κρητικής ενδοχώρας. Στην κορυφή ενός ψηλού λόφου με πανοραμική θέα στις κοιλάδες του Προφήτη Ηλία και του Βενεράτου βρίσκεται το φρούριο Μέλισσα.
