The church of Archangel Michael is one of the finest Byzantine monuments located at village Episkopi, Kissamos province, where it operated as a diocese (episkopi) during the second Byzantine Period. The yard housed a Byzantine cemetery (7- 8th century) and today we see traces of the episcopal buildings.

The sebil of Haji Ibrahim Agha in Kornarou Square is an Ottoman charitable fountain built in 1776 to provide free drinking water to the residents and travellers of Heraklion.

Ένα μέρος ιδιαίτερου ενδιαφέροντος στο Γαβαλοχώρι είναι τα 24 Ενετικά Πηγάδια. Βρίσκονται περίπου 1 χλμ έξω από το χωριό, λίγο πριν το νεκροταφείο του χωριού. Αυτά τα πηγάδια έπαιξαν σπουδαίο ρόλο στη κοινωνία του Γαβαλοχωρίου τόσο κατά τη περίοδο της Ενετοκρατίας όσο και αργότερα.

Η Επισκοπή Μυλοποτάμου, κοντά στο Πέραμα Ρεθύμνου, κατά την Τουρκοκρατία ανήκε στην οικογένεια των Τουρκοκρητικών Κερίμηδων (Κερίμογλου) ή Κυρίμηδων. Εδώ είχαν κτίσει πύργο για να προστατεύσουν τις περιουσίες τους.

The monastery of Agia Moni (Holy Monastery) is located about 60km east of Heraklion and 38km west of Ierapetra, near Kavoussi Gorge. It can be accessed via a short road that starts from Ano Viannos and passes through a verdant landscape.
