Arvi monastery is built near the gorge of Arvi, in an elevated area with panoramic sea views. Today it is abandoned and only remnants of monks’cells reveal its past.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της περίφημης ‘’σκοτεινής περιόδου’’ του πολιτισμού των προχριστιανικών χρόνων στην Κρήτη αναπτύχθηκαν πολλοί οικισμοί σε απομονωμένες ορεινές περιοχές κυρίως της Ανατολικής Κρήτης. Οικισμοί που δημιουργήθηκαν σε δύσβατα μέρη που από τη φύση τους λειτούργησαν σαν φρούρια ικανά να προστατέψουν τους κατοίκους τους από εχθρικές επιδρομές.
Το φαράγγι του Μύντρη (ή Μίντρη) ξεκινάει κοντά στο χωριό Φίλιπποι της Μεσαράς και καταλήγει στο λιμάνι του Τσούτσουρα, αφού διανύσει απόσταση 6km. Είναι πολύ ανοικτό φαράγγι, χωρίς κάθετα τοιχώματα.
West of Skinokapsala village, at position Kipos, starts the small and quite quite wide gorge of Ahlia. The pine-wooded gorge finishes at the beach of Ahlia, known as Galini. During the winter months, waters from Thripti Range form a river along which there are several waterfalls (ranging from 5 to 8 meters high). Because the sandstone walls are not narrow, hiking is quite easy and no canyoning equipment is needed.
The Livadi (Lawn) Plateau of Kroussonas is located 9km west of the village Kroussonas and 35km southwest of Heraklion, on the eastern slopes of Psiloritis. It is a beautiful place to visit, especially in spring when the 300.000 pear and apple trees are blooming. The quiet green plateau with the background of the bare peaks of Psiloritis is a unique landscape.
Το Φαράγγι του Περδικάρη βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στα χωριά Μυριοκέφαλα και Αργουλές, στα σύνορα των Νομών Ρεθύμνου και Χανίων. Είναι δύσβατο φαράγγι με μεγάλη κλίση, χαμηλή βλάστηση και μεγάλο άνοιγμα σε όλο το μήκος του. Σε ένα σημείο υπάρχει μικρό ραπέλ, το οποίο μπορεί να παρακαμφθεί.
The Monastery of St. Anthony in Apezanes or Apezana is built on a rocky plateau of Asterousia Mountains, at an altitude of 440m, approximately 63km south of Heraklion. From there starts a short valley that leads from Antiskari village to the beachfront of Platia Peramata.
