Αν από τον Παπαδιόκαμπο κατευθυνθείτε δυτικά, ειδικά όταν δεν φυσάει ( πράγμα σπάνιo!), αξίζει να αφήσετε το αυτοκίνητο σας στην άκρη του δρόμου, να περάσετε τα σύρματα που θα δείτε και να περπατήσετε 2’ ως την έξοδο του φαραγγιού που ξεκινάει κοντά στο Λιόπετρο και καταλήγει στην πανέμορφη παραλία του Χαρκωματά. Εντύπωση προκαλούν οι σχηματισμοί του φαραγγιού τους οποίους δημιουργούν τα φύλλα του πλακώδους ασβεστόλιθου της περιοχής.
At the middle of the southeast shores of Lefki or Koufonissi island, at 75m altitude, we meet the ruined lighthouse of the island. There was found a temple, which unfortunately has suffered from predatory looting from the authorities (in 1920) in order to build the huge lighthouse, only 5m from the eastern short side of the temple where the entrance would have been, even though another stepped entrance was found on the north side.
From the village Astiraki, Malevizi province, we can reach the fertile plateau of Vaklia. Before meeting the plateau Strouboulas we meet the position Galia. Galia is a completely barren plateau in contrast to the fertile reddish soils of Vaklia.
The Gorge of St. Savvas is the natural continuation of the canyon Trypiti, in the wild and imposing Asterousia mountains. In the arid landscape of Asteroussia Mts, the dense forest of the wild olive and carob trees looks like an oasis in the desert.
Kastelos Hill is located 8 km west of the city of Chania and 15 km east of the village Varipetro of Province Cydonia. It is a walled citadel (acropolis) at an altitude of 250m. The hill is considered to have been inhabited since the Minoan Era, to the medieval Times.
The Monastery of St. John in Kapsas is located 9km east of Makrigialos next to Goudouras. This is owned by Toplou Monastery, near Sitia, and is dedicated to the Beheading of St. John the Baptist, celebrated on August 29.
