The River Platis Potamos is one of the rivers of Crete with lot of water and dense vegetation. Indeed, along the banks there are several stone bridges with arches built by the inhabitants of the area to cross the river.
1.5km east of Spili, next to the main road connecting Spili to Agia Galini, you will meet the chapel of Agia Fotini, also known as Agia Fotia. Next to the road, you will find the springs of Agia Fotia, an old mill and a quite high waterfall (in winter).
Ο Πύργος βρίσκεται στην βορειοδυτική ακτή της Γαύδου, 6 χλμ βορειοδυτικά του λιμανιού στην Καραβέ. Στον Πύργο υπάρχουν δύο διπλανές σμαραγδένιες αμμουδερές παραλίες, οι οποίες είναι εντελώς ανοργάνωτες και απομονωμένες. Πολλοί τις επιλέγουν για κατασκήνωση, καθώς είναι πολύ μακριά από οποιαδήποτε τουριστική υποδομή.
Το φαράγγι της Σπηλιώτισσας βρίσκεται περίπου 24km νότια του Ηρακλείου. Είναι μια καταπράσινη ρεματιά που ξεκινάει από το χωριό Χουδέτσι, περνάει από τον Άγιο Βασίλειο και καταλήγει στον κάμπο των Πεζών.
At position Anemospilia, on the north slopes of Mount Jiouchtas, the archeologists G. and E. Sakellarakis located in 1979 a small sanctuary of Minoan Crete that surprised the global archaeological community. This small sanctuary offered the first indication of human sacrifices in Minoan Crete.
Το μικρό αλλά εντυπωσιακό φαράγγι των Ανύδρων βρίσκεται ανατολικά της Παλαιόχωρας. Ξεκινάει από το χωριό Άνυδροι και μετά από μια φιδίσια διαδρομή περίπου 3km ανάμεσα από ψηλά βράχια καταλήγει στην όμορφη παραλία Γιαλισκάρι.
The lighthouse of Panormos is located east of the homonym coastal settlement. It can be accessed after walking 30 minutes a dirt road that starts from the local cemetery, passing through the arid pastures of the region, while having unique view on the northern shores of province Mylopotamos and Panormo. During the course, we get impressed by the geological formations of the phyllite rocks.
The ports of Polirinia were Falassarna and Kissamos. It developed close trade relations with Sparta, Milos, Rhodes, Thiva, the coasts of Ionia and Egypt. Apart from trade, the town was apparently famous for livestock, as the name comes from the words “polla rinia” which means many lambs.
