Kamarelles Beach, opposite the small islet of Marmaro and next to the ancient Roman Theatre, is an amazing sandy beach. It is very interesting to watch ancient pillars while snorkeling! On the south end of the beach, we meet two impressive natural arches, called Kamarelles.
Cave Lavyrinthaki is located 50km south of Heraklion, on a small hill between Plouti and Moroni. It is a small ancient quarry, with an approximately large room of 300 sq. meters, while the height at some point reaches 4m. There are several columns for supporting the roof.
Agii Pantes Gorge is located next to Skopi of Sitia province, near Faneromeni Monastery, and is one of the easiest places to walk in Crete. The very well signed trail runs along the riverbed of the gorge, below the shade of hundreds platan trees. There are two fresh water springs in the canyon, one is called Koutsounari and the other one, located inside a cave, is called Hosto Nero. The exit of the gorge is the beach of Agii Pantes (by Platani beach). The area floods in winter turns to an important wetland. Near its exit, you will admire the white limestock formations, reminding of huge pleurotus mushrooms.
Το φαράγγι της Κανδάνου αποτελεί ένα μέρος εξαιρετικής φυσιολατρικής και ιστορικής σημασίας, το οποίο κινδυνεύει να υποβαθμιστεί από τη λειτουργία λατομείου. Στο φαράγγι της Κανδάνου έγινε η πρώτη μάχη ένοπλου λαού εναντίον κρατικών στρατευμάτων στην ιστορία του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου.
Το καταφύγιο Πρίνος βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 1100m στις ανατολικές πλαγιές του Ψηλορείτη. Η πρόσβαση γίνεται είτε με 2:00 ώρες πεζοπορία από τους Άνω Ασίτες, ενώ υπάρχει και χωματόδρομος. Από εδώ μπορεί να πεζοπορήσει κανείς για τις κοντινές κορυφές Κουδούνι, Γυριστή, το δάσος του Ρούβα (4 ώρες) και τη Νίδα (7 ώρες).
The small ancient Sanctuary of Afrodision Iero (Aphrodite Temple) is located near the village Lenika and dates back from 10th century BC. The same place was used in the 2nd BC century for building a larger two-aisled temple of Ares and Aphrodite, as evidenced by inscriptions found here.
Ο Αξεδιανός ποταμός, που μεταφέρει τα νερά από την περιοχή ανατολικά της Αγίας Βαρβάρας και του Αγίου Θωμά, στην πορεία του σχηματίζει μερικούς υπέροχους καταρράκτες. Ειδικότερα, στο σημείο που βρίσκεται σήμερα ο γραφικός ναός της Παναγίας Καρδιώτισσας κοντά στον Άγιο Θωμά, σχηματίζονται πολλοί καταρράκτες, μικροί και μεγάλοι, δημιουργώντας ένα μοναδικό σκηνικό το ως την άνοιξη.
Ανατολικά από το Σπήλι, σε απόσταση 1,5 χιλ. περίπου, δίπλα από τον κεντρικό δρόμο προς Αγία Γαλήνη βρίσκεται το εκκλησάκι της Αγίας Φωτεινής, που όπως σε πολλά άλλα μέρη της Κρήτης έχει παραφραστεί σε Αγία Φωτιά. Δίπλα στο δρόμο υπάρχει μια πηγή με πολύ νερό όλο το χρόνο, εδώ υπήρχε ένας μεγάλος μύλος παλαιότερα ενώ κοντά σχηματίζεται μεγάλος καταρράκτης το χειμώνα.
