The Monastery of Panagia Exakousti is located in the beautiful green location Malles, near Ierapetra. Today it serves as a female convent. The nuns operate a workshop with textiles, a tailor and needlework shop and other souvenirs.
The fort of Sfakia (Castel di Sfacia or Sfachia) was built on Kastelli hill, on the eastern edge of Sfakia (Chora Sfakion) town and was the last fort built by the Venetians in Crete. It was built during the 15th-16th century on the site of a previous Byzantine fort. Information about the castle is very poor, but this was mentioned for the first time in documents of 1526.
Next to the village of Krya, 25km away from the town of Sitia, there is a hill with the church of St. George and the ruins of a Venetian castle, called Monte Forte or Apano Castelli (Upper Forth).
Η πηγή και το σπήλαιο του Κορμοκόπου βρίσκεται βορειοδυτικά του Άγιου Ιωάννη, στην ανατολική πλευρά του φαραγγιού της Ελυγιάς. Το μονοπάτι από τον Άη χρειάζεται περίπου μιάμιση ώρα, ξεκινάει σαν ένας όμορφος περίπατος μέσα στο δάσος από αιωνόβια πεύκα και κυπαρίσσια, και καταλήγει, σχεδόν ξαφνικά σε ένα τοπίο άγριο και επιβλητικό.
Ανατολικά του Παλαιόκαστρου Σητείας υψώνεται ο απότομος λόφος Καστρί, που χωρίζει τις παραλίες του Κουρεμένου και της Χιόνας. Ο λόφος αυτός επί Ενετοκρατίας ονομαζόταν Paleo Castro, από όπου πήρε και το όνομα του το σημερινό χωριό.
Ο κόλπος της Παναγιάς είναι ίσως ο πιο προστατευμένος από όλους της Ντίας. Βρίσκεται 2 χλμ ανατολικά του λιμανιού του Αγίου Γεωργίου και είναι περιτριγυρισμένος από ψηλούς βραχώδεις λόφους, γεμάτους ρίγανη και αρωματικά φυτά. Αν είσαστε τυχεροί θα δείτε λαγούς να ξεπηδάνε από τους θάμνους.
The secluded lake is the unique lake at Thripti and gets its name (skafi means tub in Greek) after its oblong shape. During spring, water is very clear and is perfect for a cold bath. To access this amazing place, follow the dirt track west of Orino village and after 2km walk or drive along the concrete chute that carries water from the mountains to the lake.
