Outside the village of Fres, inside a ravine at the really beautiful position Koukou we meet the temple Virgin Mary (Panagia) of Two Rocks. Once a rock detached from the mountain and rolled down the slope. Atop of the rock, the church of Panagia was built. Adjacent there is another rock, both forming an impressive scenery.

Κάτω από το εκκλησάκι του Αγίου Νικολάου στο Κουφονήσι και λίγο ανατολικά από το πηγάδι του νησιού, υψώνεται απότομα ένας γκρεμός που ανακόπτει απότομα την πορεία όποιου προσπαθήσει να περπατήσει παραλιακά προς τα ανατολικά. Ακριβώς δίπλα στο γκρεμό σχηματίζεται η μικρή παραλία Πέρασμα.

At Katsivelos in Ancient Eleftherna lie the remains of an imposing Early Christian basilica, constructed around 430–450 AD by Bishop Euphratas and dedicated to Archangel Michael. It is one of the most important Early Christian monuments on Crete.

Opposite the Great Koules, the Rocca a Mare that still dominates the entrance to Heraklion’s Venetian harbour, the Ottomans constructed a smaller sea fort to reinforce the harbour’s defences. Known as the Small Koules, it was demolished in 1936 during the construction of the modern port facilities.

At the eastern end of the extensive juniper wood of Chrissi lies the small beach of Fragou Mnima. The area is home to a small saltpan known to the locals as Kaki Alyki, which turns into a small wetland during winter.

Kolokasia is a deserted village of Sfakia province, near the exit of the gorge Asfendou and near the village of Agios Nektarios. Its inhabitants mainly abandoned it because of its isolated position and moved to Agios Nektarios. Today most of the houses are dilapidated and some have been restored by some Germans who bought the ruined houses and restored them. The houses are a live sample of the simple traditional architecture of Sfakia.

Reference is made to the Chapel of St. Minas and the Virgin Mary Pandanassa in the inventories of Chandax churches in Venetian times. Having fallen into disuse for many years, in 1735 it was renovated to become the cathedral, thenceforth serving as the main centre for the Orthodox Christian faithful in Ottoman Chandax.
