The very old monastery of Saints Constantine and Helen is built at the entrance of the village Dories near Neapolis, at an altitude of 480m. The monastery is no longer inhabited, but the church is used by the parish of the village.
The highly impressive temple of St. Fanourios at Kitharida, currently used as a cemetery, was the temple of an important male monastery of Panagia Eleousa (Our Lady the Merciful). The monastery was a dependency of the Monastery of Saint Irene.
Σε απόσταση αναπνοής από το ολοζώντανο χωριό Βαλής στη Μεσαρά Ηρακλείου βρίσκεται ο Ξερόκαμπος, ένα ερειπωμένο και ακατοίκητο πλέον χωριό παρατημένο στην αργή μα σίγουρη φθορά του χρόνου. Οι τελευταίοι κάτοικοι έφυγαν από τον Ξερόκαμπο λίγο μετά τον δεύτερο παγκόσμιο πόλεμο, περίοδος κατά την οποία ερημώθηκαν πολλά χωριά στην Κρήτη.
The folk museum of Handras is housed in an old traditional house of the village. The collection consists of everyday objects of the Cretan past, donated by locals.
В 1868, турки построили здесь маленькую башню (кулес) около Лутро, которая сейчас находится рядом с церковью Св. Екатерины, на пути к Анополису. В свое время башня также использовалась как помещение для школы.

The church of St. John the Divine is located at position Foti by Gerakari and was the temple of a small monastery. It bears frescoes of two phases: the 13th century and 14th-15th century.
