Στην περιοχή ήταν κτισμένο το μοναστήρι των Αγίων 318 Θεοφόρων Πατέρων της Α΄ Οικουμενικής Συνόδου (325 μ.Χ.). Η μονή σταμάτησε να λειτουργεί με την αύξηση της πειρατείας στις αρχές της Ενετοκρατίας, αλλά σήμερα έχει μείνει μόνο το εκκλησάκι να τη θυμίζει.
Atop Aorakia hill we meet the Church of All Saints. It was built in the Venetian Era (before 1669) and bears traces of frescoes.
The village Apostoli in the province of Amari hosts several churches, the most important of which is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The temple is located at the cemetery of the village and is small signle-nave, dating back from the 14th century. The walls bear frescoes that have suffered severe damage.
Над деревней Ано Мерос, на горе Кедрос, находится старый пустующий монастырь Калидена с восстановленным византийским храмом Господа Христа. Сегодня, кроме самой церкви, почти ничего от монастыря не осталось.
Περίπου 500μ δυτικά από το λιμάνι που δένουν τα καραβάκια της νήσου Χρυσής βρίσκεται η παραλία Βλυχάδια. Η παραλία έχει μαύρο και κόκκινο χαλικάκι, ενώ ο βυθός είναι βραχώδης. Η τριγύρω βλάστηση είναι χαμηλή και δεν υπάρχει φυσική σκιά. Στο πλάι της παραλίας υπάρχει εικονοστάσι. Είναι μια καλή επιλογή για όσους θέλουν να απομονωθούν στη νότια μεριά του νησιού, ειδικά τις ημέρες που η βόρεια έχει κύμα.
Thousands of visitors, descending the Samaria gorge, reach Agia Roumeli every day and enjoy their bath in the main beach, Gialos, stretching in front of the taverns. However, there are some very nice and quiet beaches around, one could explore. One of these beaches is Mashali and is actually the west part of the bay of Agia Roumeli.
By Sarchos we meet one of the most impressive churches of Cretan innerland with a beautiful relief entrance and rear window, which is dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary. The church dates back to the 14th century and is double-aisled, bearing very important frescoes.
