Voukelasi

Voukelasi Koules (Pikilasos)
(3 votes)
The tower of Pikilasos is located at position Voukelasi above the wild gorge of Tripiti, where the ancient town Pikilassos was built. It is one of the many defensive towers (koules) built by the Ottomans in the middle of the 19th century to protect the coastline of Sfakia. The fortress is in poor condition, but relatively better than other koules in Sfakia. Voukelasi controlled the passage to Sougia, but mostly it served as a message transmitter between the koule of Agia Roumeli and Sougia.
