Neraidospilios of Astraki is situated about 23 km from Heraklion, near the village Astraki. The cave is located near the majestic river of Astraki, where the gorge, ending in Karteros, starts. Neraidospilios is a small two-storey cave. According to the archaeologist Paul Faure, it has been the temple of Athena Tritogenia, whose surname is derived from the ancient name of river Karteros, that is Triton (Tritogenia means “coming from Triton”). The cave is one of the springs of the aqueduct of Astraki, which still supplies Heraklion city with water, since the early 20th century.
The beach of Damialis is located 1.5km north of Kissamos town and 37km west of Chania. It is situated just off the main road linking Kissamos with Platanos, thus access is very easy.
West of Koudoumas Monastery lies Avvakospilio, a cavernous church where, according to tradition, Ossios Kosmas lived as an ascetic during the 7th century and where his remains were buried.
600 Greeks fought against 8000 Turks during the Battle of Frangokastello (17 May 1828). They resisted for more than one week but at the end 335 of them, with Dalianis, were killed. Dead Turks were 800. According to the legend, the bodies of the warriors remained unburried, till a strong wind moved sand from Orthi Ammos and covered the bodies.

Το πρώην μοναστήρι της Παναγίας Καρδιώτισσας βρίσκεται στην καταπράσινη τοποθεσία Παναγία, λίγο έξω από τον Άγιο Θωμά. Η εκκλησία είναι κτισμένη δίπλα στον ποταμό Αξεδιανό και το χειμώνα δημιουργούνται καταρράκτες ακριβώς στο άκρο του περιβόλου της εκκλησίας, κάνοντας το τοπίο πραγματικά μοναδικό.
Η παραλία σχηματίζεται στην αγκαλιά ενός μικρού κόλπου, ανοιχτού στους βοριάδες, με βότσαλα και βαθιά νερά. Δεν είναι καθόλου οργανωμένη και απέχει αρκετά από τα κοντινότερα ξενοδοχεία και ταβέρνες. Γι’ αυτό καλό είναι να φροντίσετε να έχετε μαζί σας τα απαραίτητα. Η τριγύρω περιοχή χαρακτηρίζεται από το άγριο Κρητικό τοπίο και τα ψηλά βραχώδη βουνά.
