Οι πρώτες παραλίες της Ελούντας που συναντάτε μετά τα Λενικά, ερχόμενοι από τον Άγιο Νικόλαο, είναι οι παραλίες των περίφημων ξενοδοχείων της Ελούντας στην τοποθεσία Πηγαϊδάκια. Κάθε μεγάλο ξενοδοχείο που σέβεται τον εαυτό του εδώ έχει και το δικό του λιμανάκι, όπου δένουν τα πανάκριβα κότερα των επισκεπτών του.
At most villages of Crete on the day of Holy Saturday we meet preparations for the founara of Judah. Founara in the idiom of Crete means a big fire that burns Judah every year. On the morning of Holy Saturday the boys of the village gather dry woods and branches near the church or at a point which is visible from all the neighborhoods of the village.
The beautiful arched bridge of Prevelis is met on the way to the homonym monastery and crosses Megas River which empties at the famous beach of Preveli. It was built in the 18th century by monks of the monastery.
Elafonissi, the "Tomb of the ships" came to surface in February 1907 when the Austrian ship Imperatrix was sank here with 182 people (crew and passengers). During the event, 38 people were drowned and buried on the penisnula. If there were not the Russian ship Hivendis, the monks of Chrysoskalitissa monastery and some locals, who swam in the stormy sea to rescue the shipwrecked people, and then treated them, there would be more drowned passengers.
Koudoumas monastery is located at the exit of Katarraktis gorge in Asterousia Mountains, 80km south of Iraklion and only 40m from a beautiful beach. It is one of the most secluded monasteries of Crete, as access from Heraklion requires 2.5 hours. There is a safe 24km long dirt road that starts from the village Sternes (accessible from Charakas), at an altitude of 1000m near the peak Kofinas (1231m).
Το σπηλαιοβάραθρο «Γουργούθακας» αποτελεί το μεγαλύτερο σε βάθος σπηλαιοβάραθρο της Ελλάδος και το δεύτερο στα Βαλκάνια. Η πρόσβαση είναι σχεδόν αδύνατη και γίνεται μόνο από έμπειρες σπηλαιολόγους. Το δεύτερο μεγαλύτερο σπηλαιοβάραθρο της ελλάδας ανήκει και πάλι στην Κρήτη και είναι γνωστό ως Ταφκούρα. Βρίσκεται στην τοποθεσία «Ατζίνες» των Λευκών Ορέων και Ανατολικά της κορυφής του Αγίου Πνεύματος, στην περιοχή Μελιδονίου Αποκορώνου.
The Cretan least weasel (mustela nivalis galinthias) is an endemic subspecies of the common weasel, which is met all over the island. Other names of the animal is dwarf, pygmy or mouse weasel. Cretans also call it kalogiannou or kalogynekari (meaning nun) due to its white-striped chest, making it look like a nun.
