The proposed trekking route in the canyon starts from Niato Plateau (near Askifou Plateau) and runs along the European trail E4. You initially meet the abandoned village of Kali Lakki. From here starts the canyon, which is one of the greenest gorges in Crete, with incredibly interesting flora. Oaks, cypresses, and pines are the main trees in Sfakiano Gorge.
The unknown canyon of Venerato is located 17km south of Heraklion, just next to the village Venerato and Paliani Monastery. The deep part of the gorge is very short in length (about 500m), but its beauty does not leave the visitor unaffected, although it is badly infected by human activities.

Οι ντόπιοι το λένε και ανεμογάμη επειδή έχει την ικανότητα να αιωρείται σε σταθερό σημείο στον αέρα, ενάντια στην φορά του ανέμου, και έτσι φαίνεται ότι κάνει έρωτα στον άνεμο!
At Vlites position, by Souda port, in a beautifully landscaped scenery, there is the Souda Bay War Cemetery, where ceremonies take place every year in memory of the victims of the Second World War. Throughout the year, many visitors, mainly Australians and New Zealanders, visit this place.
Οι Μαργαρίτες είναι ένα χωριό πασίγνωστο για την όμορφη αρχιτεκτονική του και τα παραδοσιακά εργαστήρια αγγειοπλαστικής. Στην ευρύτερη όμως περιοχή των χωριών Μαργαρίτες, Ορθέ, και Ελεύθερνας εμφανίζεται μια σειρά από μικρά και παράλληλα φαράγγια.
The secluded bay of Pera Galini is located 48km east of Rethymno and 39km west of Heraklion, near the village Sises. The name “Pera Galini” is known to all Cretans because of the local disposal center, which accepts the garbage of the city of Heraklion. Almost nobody knows that there is a beach nearby, however severely degraded by pollution.

The bay of Chomatistra is located 24km north of Agios Nikolaos and 9km north of Plaka, near the village Vrouchas and the Cape of Agios Ioannis - Aforesmenos. The wild landscape of the area is characterized by bare mountains, steep cliffs and strong winds.
