Ο Ναός Πέτρου και Παύλου χτίστηκε κατά τους πρώτους χρόνους της βενετσιάνικης κυριαρχίας ως Καθολικό της μονής του Τάγματος των Δομηνικανών (Domenicani Predicatori). Αποτελεί ένα από τα παλαιότερα μνημεία αρχιτεκτονικής των Κιστερκιανών Μοναχών του 12ου αιώνα.
Ancient Dreros (or Driros) was built on the Mount Kadistos, next to the current church of St. Anthony, 2km northeast of Neapolis town. The town was inhabited by Eteocretans and Dorians (who arrived in Crete in 1100BC) and flourished in the Classical - Hellenistic Period.
Eleonora’s Falcon (scient. Falco eleonorae) is one of the most important falcons of Greece with a wingspan of 84-103cm and a body length 36-40cm. It is a migratory species that nests in the spring in small barren islets, where they reproduce. They are also found in Crete, especially in the small islets surrounding Crete, while in winter they return to East Africa and Madagascar.
Η παραλία Μένιες βρίσκεται στη θέση της Αρχαίας Δίκτυννας. Η Δίκτυννα ήταν το σημαντικότερο ιερό της θεάς Βριτομάρτιδος, η οποία έχει συνδυαστεί με τη θεά Άρτεμη, το οποίο δεχόταν πιστούς από όλα τα πλάτη και μήκη του νησιού όντας ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα προσκυνήματα της εποχής.
The nunnery of Rodia, known as Holy Monastery of the Virgin Mary was founded in 1990 by the Bishop Nektarios Papadakis. The region of the monastery belonged to Agapi Sbokou, who donated that to the Archdiocese of Crete in order to found the monastery.
Ο Πηγιανός Κάμπος βρίσκεται 8 χλμ ανατολικά του Ρεθύμνου, περίπου στο κέντρο της τεράστιας παραλίας του κόλπου της πόλης. Παλαιότερα στην περιοχή υπήρχαν τα παραθαλάσσια κτήματα του χωριού Πηγή.
Από το δασικό χωριό Άγιος Ιωάννης Σφακίων ξεκινά ένα από τα ομορφότερα και καλύτερα σηματοδοτημένα μονοπάτια των Χανίων, το μονοπάτι του Κορμοκόπου. Η λέξη Κορμοκόπος είναι σύνθετη και προέρχεται από το κορμός και το κόβω επειδή το πολύ πλούσιο δάσος από πεύκα και οριζοντόκλαρα κυπαρίσσια υπήρξε για αιώνες πηγή ξυλείας για τους ξυλοκόπους της περιοχής.
Omalos Plateau of Viannos is located at the southern foot of Mount Dicti, next to Kato Simi and Viannos, 60km southeast of the city of Heraklion. It can be accessed more easily from Kato Simi, but there are also alternative routes that are worth driving on dirt track (such as the road starting from the Lassithi Plateau and another track coming from the smaller plateau of Lapathos).
