Approximately 500m west of the main harbor Chrissi island, approximately in the middle of the southern side of the island, a dirt road leads us to the beautiful Vlychadia beach. The beach has black and red chalk that comes from red lava, while the bottom is mainly rocky.

An important settlement of the Minoan and Roman period has been found in the island known to the ancient Greeks as Chrysea, the present island of Chrissi or Gaidouronisi. Buildings and at least three carved tombs have been identified near the church of Agios Nikolaos and the lighthouse on the island. The settlement was probably used for the production of Tyrian purple from the shells of Murex brandaris, exactly like the neighboring isle of Koufonissi.

The Cretan Hound or Cretan Tracer is the oldest hunting breed of dog in Europe, with more than 4000 years of history on the island of Crete. It is believed to originate from the ancient breed of hound Basentzi in Egypt, introduced to the island’s particular conditions. By the middle of the last century, only a few purebred dogs were remaining, mostly in east Crete, but today the situation has improved considerably.

Ο Ξωπατέρας ή Ξώπαπας (Ιωάννης Μαρκάκης από τα Μανουσιανά) υπήρξε μια από τις μεγαλύτερες επαναστατικές φυσιογνωμίες της Κρήτης. Η ύπαρξη του συνδέθηκε στενά με την μονή Οδηγήτριας, κοντά στον Σίβα Μεσαράς.

The church that stands high at Archanes is the double-aisled basilica of St. Nicholas. It was built in 1857 with a combination of styles inspired by Venetian and Ottoman elements.

Το μικρό αρχαίο Αφροδίσιον ιερό βρίσκεται κοντά στον οικισμό Λενικά και χρονολογείται στον 10πΧ αιώνα. Στην ίδια θέση ιδρύθηκε τον 2ο π.Χ. αιώνα μεγάλος δίχωρος ναός του Άρεως και της Αφροδίτης, όπως μαρτυρούν επιγραφές που βρέθηκαν εδώ.

The Monastery of the 98 Holy Fathers is located in a lush green area near the village Azogyres, Selino province. It was built in 1864 by Konstantinos Kriaris at the site where, according to tradition, the 99 Holy Fathers lived, led by Saint John the Hermit, one of the best known Saints of Crete, who is considered the founder of asceticism on the island.

Ο Χαυγάς ξεκινάει κοντά από τον Μινωικό οικισμό του Αζοριά και τερματίζει την πορεία του στο Καβούσι με μήκος μόλις 700μ. Η διάσχισή του μέσα από το ρέμα του απαιτεί τεχνικά μέσα (εξοπλισμός Canyoning) καθώς στην πορεία του σχηματίζονται 6 πανέμορφους καταρράκτες, από τους οποίους ο μεγαλύτερος έχει ύψος 20 μέτρα κι έχουν νερό το χειμώνα.
