The small monastery of Michael Archangel is located at position Finikias, over the stream that forms the beautiful palm wood of Souda. Phoenix (Finikas), as it is known, was a dependency of the monastery Prophet Elias in Roustika and today belongs to the parish of Sellia.
Ο μητροπολιτικός ναός της Μεγάλης Παναγιάς στο Ρέθυμνο είναι αφιερωμένος στα Εισόδια της Θεοτόκου (εορτ. 21 Νοεμβρίου). Το αρχικό κτίριο ήταν τρίκλιτη βασιλική με το μεσαίο κλίτος αφιερωμένο στα Εισόδια της Παναγίας και τα άλλα δύο στους Τρεις Ιεράρχες και στους Αγίους Αποστόλους.
Το κυρτοδάκτυλο σαμιαμίδι (επιστ. Mediodactylus kotschyi) είναι ένα κοινο είδος σαύρας της Κρήτης, το οποίο μοιάζει πάρα πολύ με τα προηγούμενα δύο, αλλά ανήκει σε άλλο είδος. Ωστόσο, η σημαντικότερη διαφορά του με τα άλλα είδη σαμιαμιδιού που αναφέραμε είναι ότι έχει λεπτό σώμα, καθώς και λεπτά άκρα και δάχτυλα χωρίς βεντούζες.
Στην Κάινα Αποκορώνου ζούσε ένας τρομερός γενίτσαρος που ονομαζόταν Μεχμέτ Αγάς Γενίτσαρης. Καταγόταν από την Τύνιδα της Τυνησίας και ήταν απόγονος κάποιου Αλή, σωματάρχη του τουρκικού στρατού, κατά την απόβαση του στον όρμο της Κύριας Γωνιάς το 1645.
For the usual practices of eastern Crete, the church of Saint George at Kavoussi, is a barrel-vaulted church of large dimensions with two wings on the west side which create a T-shaped narthex. The great length of the church may have resulted from an extension to the east during a second construction phase.
A steep cliff rises above the village of Malathyros, on which the Byzantines built a fortress to control the province of Kissamos. Ascent is possible from Malathyros. The fortress had a double fortification wall reaching a wall width of 2.30 meters and 12 semicircular fortification towers, while traces of cisterns and other buildings survive.
In a secluded and lush green area north of village Pendamodi, a dirt road heads to the small single-aisled church of Agia Paraskevi. The surroundings of the temple are beautifully landscaped and here locals organize cultural events in summer.
Amid the fertile plain of Lassithi, among potato crops and the characteristic metal windmills of the plateau, we meet the temple of Saint John Kambitis (or Mesokapiditis) which means Saint John of the Plain. The temple is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and is the largest pilgrimage of the province of Lasithi.
